Local Courts Receive Grants

John J. Bonacic

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that several Justice Courts in Delaware County have been awarded funding grants under the State's Justice Court Assistance Program.

"I am pleased to announce this funding as it will assist our localities while preventing increases in property taxes," stated Senator Bonacic. "These courts are funded by the towns and villages they serve and taxpayers cannot afford higher tax bills."

Justice courts in the Village of Stamford of Delaware County will receive $2,344. Also, the Towns of Bovina, Colchester, Delhi, Deposit, Harpersfield, Sidney and Stamford in Delaware County will receive grants ranging from $100 to $27,000.

Senator Bonacic said that the Justice Court Assistance Program grants are used to purchase critical computer and electronic equipment and to update the training and legal materials crucial for judges and clerks; all of which are essential to do their job.

"The funding will help our local courts to effectively serve us all. Our courts must be up to date in order to ensure justice is administered fairly, crime victims are protected, traffic laws are enforced, as well as continued access by citizens to resolve small claims matters," concluded Senator Bonacic.
