Senator Golden Announces His Annual Senior Fair

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District), Chairman of the New York State Senate Aging Committee, will be hosting his 6th Annual senior fair to offer local seniors and their families an opportunity to learn of the services available to assist them with their property taxes, their prescription drug coverage, their personal safety, and their health. The senior fair will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s School Auditorium at the corner of 4th Avenue and 97th Street. May is "Older Americans Month."

The senior fair will feature information and assistance offered by various City agencies including: the New York City Department for the Aging, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Sanitation, the New York City Department of Health, the New York City Department of Parks, the New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department.

Additionally, the Medicare Rights Center, the EPIC Program, the Metro Card Mobile Sales unit and senior service agencies will be attending. Free blood pressure screenings will also be available and lunch will be served.

Senator Golden will be discussing his efforts to combat the rising cost of prescription drugs, including the recent introduction of a New York State discount drug card, and providing an update to the seniors in attendance of his legislative efforts that led to the passage of Granny’s Law.

May is "Older Americans Month", and so this is a time for us to gather as a community and learn about programs and services available to assist senior citizens age with independence, dignity and choice."
