Senator Golden Cheers Return Of Ferry Service For Brooklyn Commuters

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) is applauding Mayor Bloomberg’s announcement that ferry service at the 58th Street Pier in Brooklyn will resume operation to lower Manhattan effective Monday, May 12th. New York Water Taxi will again operate the service at $6.00 each way, with discounts available and free parking on the 58th Street Pier.

"This is a great day for Brooklyn as we see the return of waterborne transportation," cheered Senator Marty Golden, "Since the service was discontinued in February, residents have repeatedly called for the need for such service to be restored. We must thank Mayor Bloomberg and the City of New York for their efforts which will get this service sailing once again."

"With the rising price of gas, with the increase in tolls, and parking, and simply, just due to traffic congestion, taking the waterways, instead of the highways, to work is by the far the better way. Further, this ferry service provides an means for people to get to work with a feeling of security and comfort. I encourage ridership for this great service for the purposes of work, recreation and tourism."

Senator Marty Golden, in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001, worked with City officials and Community Board 10 to institute ferry service at the Brooklyn Army Terminal. The service has continued to operate with periods of interruption since that time.
