GOLDEN STATEMENT ON PIPELINE SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), a member of
the State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran
Affairs, issued the following statement regarding the agreement reach to
secure the Buckeye Pipeline and rail yard in Bay Ridge:

Senator Golden stated, “This plan to insure the safety of all us
living near the Buckeye Pipeline comes as a relief for all who have worried
for so long that the pipeline is vulnerable and can be used to inflict harm
on our community. I thank Eugene Handler for bringing some of these
security deficiencies to the public’s attention. I commend the efforts of
the Buckeye Pipeline Company, Community Board 10, the Metropolitan Transit
Authority and the Long Island Rail Road for finding a real solution that
will protect us. The concerns of the residents, law enforcement officials,
and so many, have been addressed.”

The plan includes the installation of fencing at street level to keep
trespassers out of the railyards, increased security in the area, and new
valve covers on the pipeline.

Senator Marty Golden, a former New York City Police Officer, has been
advocating for better security for the pipeline. Last year, Golden hosted
a Senate Committee hearing on the subject at the Fort Hamilton Army Base.
