GOLDEN: N.I.A. SUMMER CAMP, FEARED CLOSING, FINDS A NEW HOME

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today issued
the following statement on decision reached about the future of the
Neighborhood Improvement Association’s Summer Camp:

“I am proud that working with my office, the Neighborhood Improvement
Association and District 20 of the Department of Education, have been able
to reach a decision that will keep the camp open this summer. With the
school construction going on at P.S. 229, having summer camp was not an
option at that site, as in the past, and it was suggested that it be
canceled. Together, with the parents and educational leaders, including
District 20 Superintendnet Karina Costantino, we were able to have the
program relocated to I.S. 187 for the children of our community.

“For the working parents, it was an impossibility to have this
program not open this summer. And for the children who have for many years
enjoyed this program, it would not have been fair to tell them that the
camp was closed. The children look forward to it, the games, the fun, the
friendships and all the recreation, and I was not going to let them down.”
