Senate Approves Nozzolio Resolution Calling For Veteran Health Care Funds
“This legislative resolution calls upon the United States Congress to provide adequate health care for the brave men and women who have given so much to our country,” said Senator Nozzolio. “We need to thank our veterans and ensure they receive the care that they deserve. This week, thousands of National Guardsmen, including those from Rochester, Auburn, Geneva and surrounding communities, are being deployed to serve our country overseas. We owe them a great debt and we can help to repay that debt by providing quality medical care for them when they get back home.”
Senator Nozzolio thanked Vietnam combat disabled veteran Gene Simes, host of the Veterans for Veteran Connection radio show, for his on-going campaign to ensure that veterans receive proper medical care.
Gene Simes said, “It is imperative that the United States government provide the best health care possible for the brave men and women coming home from battle. Senator Nozzolio and other officials from around the country have joined our call for mandatory funding for veterans and I am extremely pleased that this resolution has gained the support of the New York State Senate.”
This month, more than 1,700 members of the New York National Guard from around New York State will be mobilized to depart for Afghanistan. Before being deployed overseas, the soldiers are scheduled to train for two months at Fort Bragg in Georgia. The 1,700 soldiers being deployed include approximately 80 soldiers from throughout western New York that are based in Ithaca.
More than 6,000 members of the New York National Guard have been called to active duty for service, mostly in Iraq and Afghanistan, since 2003. Approximately 600 National Guard soldiers are currently serving active duty.
“Throughout our nation’s history, veterans have made tremendous sacrifices in defense of our democracy. In fighting for freedom and peace, our veterans secured America’s greatness, a greatness that prevails today because of all our veterans’ tremendous collective sacrifice. America’s veterans are our true heroes, and this resolution calls upon the Federal Government to honor the sacrifice that our veterans have made by ensuring that they receive the best health care services available,” concluded Nozzolio.
