Senator Saland Secures Funding For Health Care Organizations In State Budget

Stephen M. Saland

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced funding for a number of health care organizations in Dutchess County.

Saland secured the following funding in the 2008-2009 State Budget:

"These local organizations provide much needed services to families in Dutchess County contending with a wide range of health related challenges," said Senator Saland. "The grants I have secured will provide them with funds to continue their work of helping those dealing with a variety of health issues. The equipment and materials these agencies will provide will help them in their commitment to improving the quality of life of those they serve."

"Alzheimer’s disease is often confusing, frightening, and draining -- emotionally, physically, and financially -- for persons with the disease and their family members and caregivers. The member item funding we received from Senator Saland will help pay for educational materials used in teaching families about how to cope with these challenges. It will also fund start-up costs associated with Foundations of Dementia Care, a new educational program aimed at enhancing the quality of Alzheimer care offered in residential care facilities. We are grateful to Senator Saland for his outstanding support," said Elaine Sproat, President & CEO, Alzheimer's Association of Hudson Valley/Rockland/Westchester, NY Chapter.Jackie Brownstein, Executive Director, Mental Health Association in Dutchess County said, "The funding through Senator Saland's office will allow the MHA to purchase a new van for our support program for parents with major mental health issues. The van allows us to transport parents and their children to programs that provide vital education and support, enabling them to effectively parent their children as they deal with their mental health issues. Most of the participants in the program do not have their own transportation and without the availability of a van the program could not transport. Transportation allows parents to attend this program, helping to keep children in the home and families together. We are very appreciative of Senator Saland's efforts to secure this grant for us."
