Senator Steve Saland Announces Funding For City Of Poughkeepsie Waterfront

The funding will be used to create a dock which can accommodate vessels such as tourist sightseeing cruises and dinner cruises as well as other large vessels, in addition to the smaller vessels using the marina daily. A canoe and kayak launch will also be constructed in order to improve public access to the Hudson River.

“The revitalization of the City of Poughkeepsie waterfront is critical to our region’s quality of life and economy,” said Senator Saland. “The upcoming Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial and the opening of Walkway Over the Hudson will be an economic boon for the Hudson Valley and for the City of Poughkeepsie, bringing millions of tourist dollars into our area for years to come. A revitalized waterfront is an integral part of these projects and will provide the public with access to one of the most beautiful parts of the Hudson River Valley. Whether it be tourist boats, dinner cruises or kayak launches, these improvements will return an exciting vitality to the waterfront. I am pleased to have been able to secure these funds and view this project as vital to the renaissance of the City of Poughkeepsie.”

Poughkeepsie Mayor John C. Tkazyik stated, “This half million dollar grant will make the southern waterfront area of Poughkeepsie the crown jewel of public recreational destinations on the Hudson River. The grant will fund the construction of a large, new boat dock that will have capacity for large tour boats, dinner cruise boats, and even a ferry service. The people of Poughkeepsie will enjoy increased public access to the Waterfront thanks to this grant that was secured by our friend Steve Saland.”
