Senator Oppenheimer: 'college Goal Sunday' Helps New York Families Plan And Pay For College Education

State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) today announced an upcoming one-day special event designed to help college-bound high school seniors and their families complete and file federal aid applications electronically.

College Goal Sunday, a national initiative hosted locally by the New York State Financial Aid Administrator’s Association (NYSFAAA) and the New York State Higher Education Services Corp. (HESC), has assisted thousands of families with access to higher education opportunities.

"Many students rely on financial aid to turn their dream of attending college into a reality," Senator Oppenheimer said. "Whether you choose a four-year college, a two-year college or vocational training, this program can help you get the money you need to succeed." She noted that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a federally required form for students seeking financial aid, such as grants, work-study funds and loans.

This year, NYSFAAA and HESC have once again teamed up to host College Goal Sunday at numerous locations throughout the state, including:

New Rochelle High School (265 Clove Road) on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Lincoln High School (375 Kneeland Ave., Yonkers) on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Higher education financing experts will be on hand to help local residents with the application process.

Senator Oppenheimer encouraged interested students and their families to visit www.collegegoalsundayny.com to prepare for College Goal Sunday. The website includes a step-by-step checklist detailing how to compile the forms and information that families will need to bring to the event.

"As we all know, filling out financial aid paperwork can be a daunting process, but College Goal Sunday cuts through the paper jungle," the Westchester lawmaker concluded. "Don’t miss this chance for some one-on-one expert advice."
