Join Senator Marcellino And Long Islanders In Support Of Our Fair Share Of Education Aid
Senator Carl L. Marcellino is inviting all residents to an education & taxpayer rally to fight against Governor Paterson’s proposed $147 million education aid cut to Long Island’s schools.
The rally will be held on Saturday, February 28th from 11 am to noon at Ellsworth Allen Park, which is located on Motor Avenue in Farmingdale. State legislators, taxpayers, students, educators, small business owners, and labor leaders will all be joining together to fight the Governor’s cuts.
“While the Governor’s proposed budget cuts vital funding to education, it is maintaining a million dollars in funding for the Hudson-Fulton Champlain Quadricentennial celebrations. This new leadership is saying yes for a block party on the Hudson, but no to education on Long Island. These are misplaced priorities,” said Senator Marcellino.
Senator Marcellino noted that the success of a similar rally last year proved critical in helping defeat cuts to Long Island’s share of state education aid proposed by then-Governor Eliot Spitzer.
"Last year, over 1,500 people from across the Island joined together to fight for our fair share and it worked. This year, with homeowners already overtaxed and feeling the strain of a bad economy, we need to fight once again to protect our students and taxpayers," Senator Marcellino added.
Residents can get additional information about the rally by calling Senator Marcellino’s office at 516-922-1811.
