Bellmore students at the Winthrop Avenue Primary Center recently welcomed State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) for a demonstration of their “SMART Board” technology. Senator Fuschillo secured state funding for the Bellmore School District to purchase the educational technology.
SMART Boards are touch sensitive, computerized blackboards which allow teachers to incorporate the Internet, videos, and manipulate text as part of their lessons. Teachers can also have students actively participate in a lesson by having them use the SMART Boards to search the Internet, write text, or draw diagrams in front of the class.
Winthrop Avenue students demonstrated for Senator Fuschillo the interactive nature of SMART Boards in their Spanish, math, and social studies lessons. Teachers at the school also told Senator Fuschillo how the technology greatly improved their ability to keep children’s attention because the devices keep students more engaged and actively involved in the lessons.
“The interactive nature of SMART Boards benefit both students and teachers. SMART Boards help make learning fun and help keep children focused on the material by continually generating interaction. It was great to see how the children enjoyed using the SMART Boards and how excited they were about learning,” said Senator Fuschillo.
