SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE INFORM MASSAPEQUA PARK SENIORS HOW TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM FRAUD AND ABUSE

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) today held an informational meeting at the Brady Park Senior Center for Massapequa Park seniors about protecting themselves and their loved ones from abuse and mistreatment at care facilities, as well as safeguarding themselves from Medicaid Fraud.
Jim Clarke, a special assistant attorney general from the New York State Attorney General’s Office, joined Senator Fuschillo at the event. The State Attorney General’s Office is the agency responsible for overseeing these issues.
At the meeting, seniors learned about how they can protect themselves or their loved ones from abuse, neglect, or mistreatment at nursing homes or other board and care facilities. Seniors also learned how they can file a complaint with the Attorney General’s office if they suspect wrongdoing at any of these facilities.
In addition, those in attendance also learned about the efforts of the State’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, which is responsible for ensuring that Medicaid dollars are not lost, wasted, or stolen through fraud. The Attorney General’s office offered information about how seniors can report any suspected fraud.
"Being informed and proactive are the best ways for residents to protect themselves from falling victim to abuse and fraud. I thank the Attorney General's Office for joining me to inform seniors about these very important issues," said Senator Fuschillo.
