SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES DR. DON STERNBERG OF WANTAGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON BEING NAMED 2009 PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR
State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visited Wantagh Elementary School to congratulate Dr. Don Sternberg on being named 2009 New York State Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS).
SAANYS gives the award annually to a principal who has set the pace, character, and quality of education for the children in his or her school. Honorees are administrators who are committed to students, parents, and the community and have shown exceptional contributions to the educational process.
Dr. Sternberg has been principal of Wantagh Elementary School for the last 26 years. Under his leadership, Wantagh Elementary School was named a School of Excellence by both the New York State Education Department and the United States Department of Education. In addition, Dr. Sternberg serves as co-president of the Nassau County Elementary School Principals Association and is a member of the Long Island Leadership Advisory Board.
Senator Fuschillo congratulated Dr. Sternberg on earning this honor and presented him with a copy of a legislative resolution passed by the New York State Senate honoring his accomplishment.
“Through his leadership and devotion to children, Dr. Sternberg has helped generations of young students learn and develop skills that benefit them throughout their lives. He is a truly worthy of this honor, and it is my pleasure to join with the entire community in congratulating him,” said Senator Fuschillo.
