SENATOR FUSCHILLO HELPS COMMEMORATE JONES BEACH STATE PARK’S 80TH ANNIVERSARY
State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently joined with officials from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and historic Preservation, Assemblyman Dave McDonough (19th Assembly District), and local beachgoers to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the opening of Jones Beach State Park.
Jones Beach State Park was first opened on August 4, 1929 by then-Governor Franklin Roosevelt, former Governor Alfred Smith, and then-State Parks Commission President Robert Moses. In its first year of operation, Jones Beach served 1.5 million people. Today, approximately 8 million people visit Jones Beach each year.
Local residents, many of whom have been going to Jones Beach for decades, gathered to help celebrate the beach’s anniversary and were even served an anniversary cake complete with a picture of the iconic Jones Beach Water Tower.
