Funding For Greene County Pop Warner Announced

James L. Seward

CATSKILL, 12/12/09 – Joined by players, coaches and families, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2009-2010 state budget includes, at his request, a $5,000 senate grant toward new equipment and lighting for the Greene County Pop Warner Football league.

“The senate funding will help improve the football experience for our young men and women,” said Senator Seward.  “For many of these athletes this is their first opportunity to take part in organized athletics, a step along what can be a very rewarding path.”

The Greene County Pop Warner Football league is made up of five teams with players ranging in age from 5 to 15.  The senate funding will be used to help purchase new field lights for Angelo Canna Park and replace other pieces of outdated football equipment.

“The special senate funding will truly enhance our ability to teach the elements of football and cheerleading to over 200 young people annually,” said Tim Hunt, president of Greene County Pop Warner.  “The Greene County Pop Warner Football league truly feels like Senator Seward is our 12th man.”

“The volunteer coaches and parents who work with these fine players and cheerleaders each and every day do more than teach football, they reinforce important life lessons.  I am pleased to help make the experience as meaningful as possible,” Seward concluded.
