Senator Ruben Diaz Champions Legislation For New York State To Purchase Prescription Drugs From Canada
“In my capacity as the Chair of the New York State Committee on Aging, I must insist that no senior citizen in New York State should have to decide if he or she will eat or get their prescription medication, nor should they be forced to move to Schenectady County to do so,” declared Senator Diaz. “This legislation will allow the State to make bulk purchases of prescription drugs from Canada for our seniors.”
Senate Bill 1645 will amend the State’s elder law and create New York State prescription medication cost containment program. It will enhance cost-savings by the New York State EPIC program in procurement of prescription medications for recipients of the State’s EPIC program, and authorize the Executive Director of EPIC to utilize Canada’s research-based pharmaceutical companies in order to secure the best quality FDA-approved prescriptions at the lowest possible costs.
