Jim Smith, Staten Island Advance
For the first time our LGBT Community has been invited to participate in a parade other than our own Gay Pride Parade in June. The Staten Island Columbus Day parade will be Sunday on New Dorp Lane. Staten Island Pride Events (SIPE) will proudly carry their banner on the South Shore.
If you would like to march with the group, meet them at noon in front of New Dorp High School, just below Hylan Blvd. State Sen. Diane Savino will join us in solidarity of our LGBT community. For information contact sipridevents@gmail.com
After the march, you can follow Sen. Savino as she crosses the Island to attend the Community Health Action of Staten Island LGBT Center's annual "Coming Out Day" picnic. The free picnic will be from 1 to 5 p.m. in the gardens and lawns of Unitarian church, 312 Fillmore St. at Clinton Ave., New Brighton. Located two blocks before Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden.
Come out on Sunday.
