Senator Farley Salutes the 90th Anniversary of Women's Equality Day

Hugh T. Farley

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of Women's Equality Day on August 26th in Johnstown at a luncheon sponsored by the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Consortium

"I look forward to this event," Senator Farley said, "Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815 - 1902) is well known for her work in women's rights. She hailed from Johnstown, New York, which is in my Senate district, so I am especially pleased to participate in this day of commemoration. Not only is she important in the history of Fulton County and New York State, Elizabeth Cady Stanton played a vital role in our Nation's history."

Women's Equality Day commemorates the passage in 1920 of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.

Other local events celebrating the 90th anniversary include a historical tour and trolley ride on August 26th and an ice cream social on August 27th. For more information on all of these events, call 848-3552.

Senator Farley has also created a brochure about Elizabeth Cady Stanton and, specifically, about her Johnstown life.

"As a former teacher and enthusiastic history buff, I am pleased to help promote local history and heritage tourism. I created this publication on Ms. Stanton to help people learn more about this amazing woman and her connections to our area," Senator Farley said.
