HUNTER, 09/15/10 — NYS Senator James Seward, R-Milford, and NYS Assemblyman Pete Lopez, R-Schoharie, met with emergency response leaders and local government officials in the Town of Hunter on Tuesday to discuss how to increase safety for hikers in the Platte Clove and Kaaterskill Falls areas.

The meeting came in the wake of recent fatalities in both areas, and Seward has called for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to investigate what can be done to ensure hikers on State Forest Preserve lands do not fall to their deaths.

“We’re here to gather facts, information, and ammunition,” said Seward, “so that we can continue to press our case with DEC to take some action.”
