Vigil To Be Held For Girl Who Inspired Tough Drunk Driving Law

NY1 -- A memorial vigil will take place Tuesday for Leandra Rosado, the 11-year-old girl whose death in a drunk driving crash in Manhattan inspired a tough state law.

Tuesday is the second anniversary of the crash on the West Side Highway that killed Leandra.

Shortly after her death, former Governor David Paterson signed Leandra's Law, making it a felony to drive under the influence with a child younger than 15 in the car.

Since the law went into effect, there have been 1,550 arrests in the state, including 150 in the city.

More than 700 people have been convicted.

The vigil will be held at Fulton Park on West 17th Street, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
