SENATOR MARCELLINO JOINS HIS COLLEAGUES FOR “HEARTS FOR HUNGER” LEGISLATIVE FOOD CHALLENGE
Senator Carl L. Marcellino is joining Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank “Hearts for Hunger” Legislative Food Drive Challenge. The Harry Chapin Food Bank helps LI Cares to feed more than 300,000 Long Islanders.
The Food Drive will take place at the Huntington Waldbaums, 60 Wall Street, Huntington, NY 11743 on Saturday, March 3, 10 am - 1 pm or you can drop a donation to Senator Marcellino’s District Office 250 Townsend Square, Oyster Bay.
The Hearts for Hunger Legislative Challenge comes in response to the hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders who are in need of food. According to a report, entitled Hunger in America 2010, presented last year, one out of 10 Long Islanders seeks relief from hunger each year at food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters and a staggering 49 percent have to choose between food and rent.
“In times of pressing need – whether a family member has recently lost their job or your paycheck just isn’t covering the rising cost of food it’s clear we need to work together to make sure the food pantries are stocked and able to provide help,” said Senator Marcellino “I ask that you help us help those in need by dropping off a food item, it will be greatly appreciated.”
Suggested items include canned vegetables, including tomatoes and tomato sauce, meat, fish, fruits, soups, peanut butter, pasta, cereals, dry milk, almond or soy milk, baby formula, spices, coffee, tea, personal care items, nutritional beverages (ex. Boost, Ensure) or personal hygiene items.
