State to offer insurance assistance to Staten Islanders on Thursday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Representatives from the state Department of Financial Services will be on Staten Island on Thursday to offer insurance assistance to residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

The agency will set up a mobile command center at Miller Field from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Agency representatives will help Islanders contact their insurers if they have been unable to do so, and answer questions about homeowners', renters' and business owners' insurance coverage.

Those unable to attend can call the agency's storm hotline at 1-800-339-1759 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, or from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
