BEACH RECONSTRUCTION WORK
*24-Hour Construction to Reopen Beaches by Memorial Day*
The Parks Department and the Department of Design and Construction are committed to reopening Brooklyn’s beaches by Memorial Day. To accomplish this goal in such a short time, we will need to perform pile driving operations and other noisy construction work 24 hours a day, for a few days at a time, at several locations along the beach.
We ask for your patience and understanding as we complete this vital project to reopen our City’s beaches following the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy.
Which beaches?
New Brighton: Week of April 15th
What is being built?
We are driving piles to support new lifeguard and comfort stations, without which we cannot reopen the beaches to the public. The new buildings will also accommodate food and beverage vendors.
Are you sure this is only going to be for a few days?
Yes. However, construction work can be impacted by inclement weather, machinery failures, and other unforeseen problems. We will do everything we can to adhere to the schedule listed above and do our best to limit the extent of noisy work.
