Yonkers and Rochester on Friday had their red-light camera pilot programs extended for five years, and Mount Vernon and New Rochelle will be able to add them.

The approvals from the state Legislature came in the final hours of the legislative session, which ended Friday evening. The bills will now head to Cuomo's desk for approval.

Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers, said her city wanted the bill extended.

"It's important to the municipalities. These municipalities are asking for red-light cameras as home rule messages, so what we do when we are here is try to accommodate the needs," Stewart-Cousins said. "They've assessed the needs, they think they are effective."
