'High taxes, Common Core among complaints at Ithaca Town Hall' ~ Senator O'Mara and Assemblyman Nojay meet with constituents later today at the Wayland Town Hall

Ithaca, N.Y. February 13—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) met with Tompkins County residents late yesterday at a community meeting at the Franziska Racker Centers, where the state's high tax burden and the widely criticized implementation of the new Common Core educational standards highlighted the evening's discussion.

O'Mara reminded area residents that he will be joined by state Assemblyman Bill Nojay (R,I-Lakeview) for a community meeting later today at the Wayland Town Hall (110 North Main Street), beginning at 5:30 p.m.

O’Mara recently began a series of community meetings that he plans to hold throughout his 58th Senate District during 2014.  O’Mara’s 58th Senate District encompasses Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties, and a portion of Tompkins County (the city and town of Ithaca, and the towns of Enfield, Newfield and Ulysses).

The meetings are informal and open to the public.  They’re designed to give local residents an opportunity to directly share their concerns, opinions and suggestions for better government.  

“It’s an opportunity for area residents to learn more about and contribute to this year’s challenges and debates over taxes, regulations, mandates, economic development, health care, education and other key issues," O’Mara said.  “Community meetings offer the kind of direct give and take that’s fundamental to effective government.”

O’Mara stressed that any local residents unable to attend any of the meetings can contact him directly to share specific concerns and suggestions.
