 SENATOR ESPAILLAT PRESENTS GOVERNOR CUOMO WITH THE JUAN PABLO DUARTE AWARD AT DOMINICAN DAY PARADE BREAKFAST



Senator Adriano Espaillat, hosted a celebratory breakfast in advance of the Dominican Day Parade on Sunday. At the event special guest Governor Andrew Cuomo was presented with the Juan Pablo Duarte Award, honoring his commitment to upper Manhattan and the Dominican community.

"The Governor has proven himself a true friend of the Dominican community. From standing up to protect workers to fighting to raise the minimum wage for our hardest workers, Governor Cuomo has demonstrated his commitment to helping the Dominican people of New York. That is why I am pleased to present Governor Cuomo with the Juan Pablo Duarte Award and I am proud to work with him to keep our community moving forward,” said State Senator Adriano Espaillat 

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman was recognized for the pivotal contribution he made to the orginization of this year's Parade, and was presented with a photo of Washington Heights by Eric Adam Johnson.  

 

Governor Cuomo and Attorney General Schneiderman were joined by a large group of elected officials and community leaders from around the five boroughs including:  Congressman Charles B. Rangel, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Councilman Mark Levine, Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras, Assemblyman Denny Farrell, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, and Public Advocate Letitia James. 

The celebration, which was attended by hundreds of residents, took place at the Dyckman Marina in the heart of Washington Heights.  Of the 1.5 million Dominican-Americans in the U.S., nearly 600,000 reside in New York City.
