The Gaffer District is in the running in a national online voting contest to choose America's best Main Street.

Corning, N.Y., April 14—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) today urged area residents to cast their votes online for Corning’s Gaffer District, which is among 200 communities nationwide currently in the running in the “America’s Main Streets” competition sponsored by the Main Street America program.

In a joint statement, O’Mara and Palmesano said, “Here’s another chance to help put our region on the national map once again.  It’s an opportunity for all of us to express our pride in one of the great downtowns anywhere, as well as to share our appreciation for all of the hard work that so many civic leaders and business owners have put into making the Gaffer District such an outstanding regional attraction.”

The winning downtown will receive $25,000 to help revitalization initiatives and to promote buying local.

Corning is currently in the quarterfinal  round, which runs from now until April 24th.  Anyone can cast an online vote once every 24 hours.  The top 25 quarterfinalists move on to the semifinal round from May 2 to 29.
