On yet another tragic day of worldwide terrorism, this time in Brussels, the State Legislature today holds its annual "Fort Drum Day" to honor the American heroes of the historic 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army
Today at the Capitol is the Legislature's annual "Fort Drum Day" when we take the important opportunity to honor, to pay tribute to, and to thank the men and women of the historic 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army.
Sadly, it falls today on a day when our thoughts and prayers must go out to the people of Brussels and the victims of yet another senseless act of worldwide terrorism. Consequently, it is also yet another tragic reminder of the deep debt of gratitude we owe to America's servicemen and servicewomen for their service and devotion to the cause of peace and freedom in a dangerous and violent world.
Fort Drum is home to over 35,000 American soldiers, family members and civilian employees -- the largest Army post north of North Carolina and east of the Mississippi River.
Today we thank these American heroes and patriots for their service all over the world -- and for their incredible contributions to so many communities throughout New York State.
