Kaminsky attains $150,000 for license plate readers
A $150,000 state grant that will go to buying fixed license plate readers cameras and portable LPR trailers for use in Cedarhurst, Hewlett, Lawrence and Woodmere was secured by State Sen. Todd Kaminsky, for the Nassau County Police Department’s 4th Precinct.
Portable LPR systems function 24 hours, seven days a week and are mounted on a traffic trailer, freeing the police from being assigned to one area or wait beside a road for hours waiting for alerts.
Police can use the information collected from license plate readers to find out where a plate has been in the past, assess whether a vehicle was at the scene of a crime, identify travel trends and even uncover vehicles that may be related to each other.
“Police need every tool at their disposal to solve crimes,” Kaminsky stated in a news release. He is the Democratic candidate for county district attorney. The Republican candidate is Anne Donnelly.
“I secured a $150,000 grant for the Nassau County Police Department’s 4th Precinct for license plate readers that will help cops protect our community,” Kaminsky added. “I am committed to doing everything I can to support law enforcement and help keep Nassau the safest county in America.”
