Lee Covino named 2024 honoree for N.Y. Veteran Hall of Fame by Sen. Scarcella-Spanton
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Lee Covino, a beloved figure in the Staten Island community, has been declared the New York State Senate’s Veteran Hall of Fame’s 2024 honoree by state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D – North Shore/South Brooklyn).
“I am immensely proud to honor Mr. Covino posthumously as this year’s honoree for the New York State Senate’s Veteran Hall of Fame,” Scarcella-Spanton said. ”Even in his final days, he remained dedicated and proud of his work with the veteran community. He was supposed to be released the day after he passed away, and despite his condition, he was so proud and determined to attend this year’s event.”
“I am honored to have known him, and I know his work with the veteran community has left a lasting impact. Lee dedicated his entire life to helping his fellow veterans—from supporting his fellow Vietnam veterans who needed help readjusting to life back in a country that did not welcome them home with open arms, to assisting those veterans who returned from Afghanistan–Lee Covino was always there to lend a helping hand. Staten Island is forever grateful for his support and sacrifices for our country. He will be dearly missed,” Scarcella-Spanton said.
