Major operation takes down 17 illegal smoke shops all across Staten Island: ‘Operation Padlock’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — District Attorney Michael E. McMahon announced that nearly 20 smoke shops on Staten Island were shuttered in May in a blitz by authorities.
McMahon, State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, NYPD Patrol Borough Staten Island Deputy Chief Terence Hurson and Director of Emergency Management for the Borough President’s Office William Beale announced at a news conference on May 9 that “law enforcement has finally been empowered to seize contraband and padlock illegal dispensaries in a timely manner,” according to the powerpoint.
