STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Several members of the Department of Sanitation and Department of Corrections received applause and appreciation at the Albanian Islamic Cultural Center’s sixth annual Iftar Dinner held Saturday night in Tompkinsville.

The event, hosted by Assemblyman Charles Fall, Staten Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton and Attorney General Letitia James started with a moment of silence for Officer Jonathan Diller, who recently lost his life in the line of duty.

Scarcella-Spanton highlighted Ramadan as a time of spiritual growth, but also connected it to honoring the men and women who work in sanitation and corrections.

“These individuals work tirelessly,” she said, “This is a beautiful celebration, to reflect and celebrate. It’s a time for us to continue to encourage passion and service.”
