ALBANY — The delayed dispersal of taxpayer-donated funds for veterans’ causes is facing additional scrutiny after weeks of complaints from lawmakers.

Four veterans’ causes are supposed to receive money donated by New York taxpayers during the tax filing process but lawmakers say the funds are sitting unused. Skoufis was alerted to the problem by state Sen. Jake Ashby and state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, who have highlighted the issue in a months-long push to get the funds to the charities.

He also expressed concern over the lagging dispersal for dozens of non-veteran-related funds, but said that the first step is being taken on veterans’ causes, given the months of action by Ashby and Scarcella-Spanton.
