STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton announced last week that Miriam Bodden, a Staten Island healthcare professional, has been named the 2024 Woman of Distinction for Senate District 23.

Bodden was selected for her “exceptional work and unwavering commitment to the community,’' the senator’s announcement said.

“Miriam Bodden has been a tremendous help to countless people in our community for over a decade, assisting so many families in accessing essential and affordable health services — including my own,” said Scarcella-Spanton. “When I returned to New York after my husband got out of the Army, we had no health insurance and a daughter under a year old. Miriam walked me through everything, step by step, to ensure my family was taken care of, and I’ve always appreciated her compassion during that transition.”

Bodden has supported the people of the North Shore for almost a decade, helping hand during some of their toughest moments, the senator said.

“Her dedication to outreach, education, and enrollment has ensured that everyone in our community receives the healthcare they need,’' Scarcella-Spanton said. “Miriam is truly committed to the growth and betterment of this community and I am honored to recognize her outstanding contributions as the 2024 Woman of Distinction for Senate District 23.”
