DASNY Commits Funding to Village of Port Chester’s Village Hall Gym Revitalization
January 24, 2025: The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) has committed $750,000 in funding to support the revitalization of the Village Hall Gym in Port Chester, NY. This investment comes as part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality of life for the village’s residents and enhance community resources.
State Senator Shelley Mayer and State Assemblyman Steve Otis, who have been strong advocates for the Village of Port Chester, played a key role in securing this funding. Their tireless advocacy at the state level has led to a significant investment in the local community, ensuring the long-term success of vital programs that serve the diverse needs of Port Chester.
The scope of the project involves transforming the current gym space at Village Hall into a versatile community center. This revitalized facility will offer a wide range of athletic, academic, theatrical, and recreational programming for residents. As the village lacks a dedicated recreational facility, the new gym will become a much-needed space to support the needs of the community, particularly in engaging youth through after-school and weekend programs. This revitalized gym facility will also support the Port Chester Youth Bureau’s efforts to coordinate initiatives aimed at engaging at-risk youth, while providing the village with additional gathering and meeting spaces for local cultural, municipal, and community organizations.
I am thankful to both Senator Shelley Mayer and Assemblyman Steve Otis for always having Port Chester on their minds when funding for our initiatives becomes available. Port Chester is very lucky to have such important advocacy bringing the vision of our village to Albany. It is through these efforts that New York State becomes a partner with us to ensure that we can enrich the future of each Port Chester resident and create opportunity for the next generation.
-Mayor Luis A. Marino
I was pleased to be able to secure $375,000 in funding from the State Senate for the Village of Port Chester to support its plan to update and improve the current gym space adjacent to the Village Hall. I am hopeful that in time, the Port Chester community, including its young residents, will have a new, fantastic place to gather and play, and will be available in cases of emergency displacement. I’m deeply grateful to Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for allocating these funds for this project and to my colleague Assemblyman Steve Otis for adding the Assembly share. This was the highest priority of Mayor Luis Marino, and I was pleased to be part of the plan to make it a reality.
- State Senator Shelley Mayer
Congratulations to Port Chester Mayor Luis Marino, the Village Board of Trustees, and village professional staff on their vision for designing a dynamic use project for this currently unused space at Village Hall. The multi-use plan will be of special benefit to youth programs and become an added resource for village programs serving all residents. I am thrilled that Senator Mayer and I were able to secure state funding towards this exciting project.
-State Assemblyman Steve Otis
The Port Chester Gym Revitalization project has long been another project that couldn’t. Now, by partnering with our state representatives, this project will be added to our list of “we’re doing it!” The scope of the project will engage at-risk youth and inspire both residents and staff to design and implement more robust public programming offerings in the village with a reliable and viable location.
