Volunteer care and support for the elderly and disabled so they can remain living at home safely and independently just received a major boost, thanks to a $15,000 grant obtained by State Senator Cathy Young (R,I,C-Olean).
Catholic Charities of Livingston County received the grant to continue its Faith in Action volunteer caregiver support program.
"Due to the rural nature of our region, volunteer support for our elderly and disabled is essential," Senator Young said. "The Faith in Action program includes transportation to medical appointments, grocery and pharmacy trips, light housekeeping, meal preparation and yard work. In short, I am pleased to assist with this program."
"Faith in Action has created a model of community support that is vital to meeting some of the current and future needs of Livingston County’s elderly citizens," said Joe DiMino, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Livingston County. "Senator Young, through her support of this program, has recognized the rapidly growing needs of seniors as they strive to live at home as long as possible. On behalf of all the senior citizens Faith in Action serves and the volunteers providing assistance to them, we thank Senator Young."
