Johnson Bill To Protect Oceans Signed Into Law

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Long Island Marine District, spoke about the importance of protecting our oceans and marine resources at Jones Beach State Park when the Governor came to Long Island to sign the Senator’s legislation creating the New York Oceans and Great Lakes Protection Act. The law creates a new council to coordinate the state’s efforts to protect our oceans and Great Lakes.
"Taking a comprehensive approach to managing our water resources is simply a smarter way preserve the precious natural resources for generations to come," said Senator Johnson. "New York’s lakes, bays and oceans are more than just the gleaming gems in the crown of our State’s environmental splendor, but a key component of our economy on which hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers rely for good jobs and recreational opportunities."
