Local youth will benefit from new equipment at The Relief Zone in Frewsburg, thanks to a $20,000 grant secured by State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C-Olean).

The Relief Zone operates as a nonprofit organization that serves the community by offering a safe meeting place for various youth activities that build relationships, encourage social development, create feelings of empowerment, and develop educational skills. As The Relief Zone’s enrollment has grown over the years, updated equipment and furniture became necessary.

"The Relief Zone provides the valuable community service of providing educational activities and programming to meet the needs of our young people, both locally and with surrounding communities," Senator Young said. "This funding will assist in the Relief Zone’s continued efforts to operate at a high level."

"I would like to express how excited and honored we are to have received this funding," said Roxanne Miller, Executive Director of The Relief Zone. "The Relief Zone started with used equipment and has seen a lot of wear and tear. With this funding opportunity, we will be able to purchase new games and equipment that can withstand heavy usage. This grant opportunity allows us reach out and appeal to more youth in the community, which is what TRZ is all about."

The Relief Zone was founded in 2000 with a handful of volunteers, and some used furniture and games. Since the, the Relief Zone has partnered with various churches, businesses and the local school district to build a better community through its youth programming.
