June 10, 2007

State Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D- Queens) today said that the New York Department of State is now in the process of updating its cease and desist lists for July 2007.

"Being on this list means licensed real estate brokers and salespersons are prohibited from soliciting listings of your residential property," Senator Smith said.

Property owners who want to be on the list must complete an owner’s statement and return it to the Department of State no later than June 22, 2007.

"This list is beneficial to those homeowners who don’t want to deal with agents who are overzealous in their efforts to drum up business. You can save yourself a lot of headaches by registering," Senator Smith said.

The Queens lawmaker noted that property owners who are on the January 2007 list do nothave to submit a new owner’s statement.

While June 22, 2007 is the filing deadline for the this July’s list, filing will be accepted continuously for the next update, which will be published in January 2008.
