Senator Johnson Helps Break Ground At Advanced Research And Technology Center

State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, joined with Stony Brook University President Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny; National Grid Executive Director and Deputy Chairman Robert Catell; Senators John Flanagan and Kenneth Lavalle and others, in breaking ground at the new Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center at Stony Brook University. The new Center was made possible in part through a state grant for $35 million that was secured by Senator Johnson and the Long Island Senate delegation.

"As a long time advocate of promoting alternative sources of energy , such as solar energy, I am delighted that the Center will be devoted to developing new reliable and economical sources of energy that will not only protect our natural resources, but ultimately result in economic growth," said Senator Johnson.

According to Senator Johnson, the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center’s scientists will work closely with Brookhaven National Lab’s new Center for Functional Nanomaterials, Long Island’s Universities and the business community to achieve its goal of finding, and ultimately employing, cheaper and cleaner energy.
