State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), Chairman of the Finance Committee, announced this week that he has secured $1.5 million in state funding to help restore the popular and well utilized Bay Shore Marina. The funding will be used for new decking, sidewalk upgrades, replaced benches and improved handicapped accessibility. Also, the south wall will receive 1,372 linear feet of steel bulkheading to replace the current dilapidated wood.
Johnson was joined by Islip Town Councilman Steve Flotteron and several other officials and community members in making the announcement at the Islip Town-owned marina this week.
"While the marina's bulkheading project is an expensive and major undertaking, it’s a project that desperately needs to be completed," said Senator Johnson. "The continued maintenance of this marina is vital to ensuring continued access to and enjoyment of our local waterfront."
Johnson said that the marina is an incredible asset for thousands of Islip residents and visitors to Bay Shore who appreciate the water and the waterfront.
"I’m delighted that the work on the marina is finally getting underway so that it will be done in time for residents to fully enjoy this new and improved facility this summer."
Senator Johnson secured the funding for the Town of Islip to complete this project as part of the 2006-07 budget.
