SENATE APPROVES SENATOR ANDREA STEWART-COUSINS’ ELECTION REFORM BILL -- Measure to Ensure Every Vote Gets Counted

State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District) announced
today that her legislation, Senate bill 2443-B, was unanimously approved by
the Senate during yesterday’s Special Senate Session.  The bill, requires
polling places to have on hand the information necessary to direct voters
to their proper voting places.

     “Far too many people have not had their vote count because they
simply didn’t know the proper location of their polling place,” stated
Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins.  “This legislation provides a common sense
solution to this problem and ensures that these individuals are not
disenfranchised.”

       The provisions of Senate bill 2443-B specifically require a poll
clerk or election inspector to consult a map, street finder or other
description of all of the polling places in the election districts within
the county in which the election district is located.

       “Truly responsible elections and government can only be achieved
when every voter can exercise their right to vote.  This bill helps to
achieve that important goal,” concluded Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins.

        The companion bill passed the Assembly on June 15th.  The measure
will be forwarded to the Governor for his approval.
