Serrano Receives Prestigious Attorney General Award

Senator José M. Serrano was presented with the Attorney General’s prestigious Distinguished Public Service Award in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. It was awarded by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to exemplary New Yorkers who have been of service to the Latino community and to society at large. Serrano spoke of the importance of remembering the pioneers who have helped to empower those of Latino Heritage.

“As we remember these trailblazers we must keep in mind that with great power comes great responsibility, and that we owe it to the great men and women who helped us on this path to continue to work toward the development of policies and regulations that will meet the needs of the community,” said Serrano. “It is an honor to receive this award, not only on my own behalf, but on behalf of all those who came before me who inspire me daily as a civil servant.”

Other honorees included Suleika Cabrera from the Institute for Puerto Rican and Hispanic Elderly, Sonia Ivany from the Latin American Council for Labor, Former President of Hostos Community College Dolores Fernandez, Documentary Filmmaker Alice Cardona, and Educator Lillian Jimenez.
