SENATOR PARKER PRESENTS CALYPSONIAN FOUNDATION WITH $1,000 CHECK
Brooklyn lawmaker joins the Kings of Calypso at Big Apple Calypso Revue Labor Day Fete!
Brooklyn, NY- At their opening night concert ceremony Senator Kevin Parker presented a $1,000 ‘oversize’ check to the D’ Big Apple Calypso Revue Foundation. Founded in 2001, D’ Big Apple Calypso Revue Foundation is recognized for fostering a better understanding and deeper appreciation for calypso music outside Trinidad and Tobago, in the West Indies.
“I am proud to support the D’ Big Apple Calypso Foundation in its efforts to educate and promote Calypso music ideals and tradition to people of all ages. This funding will help keep our children active and safe from the streets,” said Senator Parker. This organization has a great reputation and I support those who are serious about educating Caribbean art and its culture to the community.”
This year the concert featured acclaimed calypso legend, The Honorable Dr. Leroy ‘Black Stalin’ Calliste and a cast of leading Caribbean artists, including Swallow from Antigua and Barbuda, Denyse Plummer, Baron, and Ronnie ‘The Mack’ McIntosh were among the headliners for the tent’s main stage at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn. In its ninth successful year Big Apple Calypso Tent runs from August 28 through September 3.
The Revue has also joined hands with a major Trinidad-based Internet provider to stream the annual West-Indian African American day Parade live on HD, to be viewed by millions around the world. The Revue also plans on producing and selling the CDs and DVDs from the week’s festivities. Finally, they intend to show a seven-night limited screening of the award-winning documentary “Calypso Dreams” which will indisputably draw crowds every night. All this is an indication that D’Big Apple Calypso Revue is gearing up for an exciting week.
