Senator Golden to Honor Firefighter for Extraordinary Bravery

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden will be honoring Firefighter Adam Rivera with a New York State Senate Resolution, for an off duty act of courage that saved the life of a fellow New Yorker, at the next meeting of the Dyker Heights Civic Association on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Philip’s Parish Hall located at 1072-80th Street.

 

Firefighter Rivera, while off duty on Friday, August 21 2009, saw a man passed out and lying across a downtown subway track. Firefighter Rivera hopped onto the uptown tracks, bounded over the third rails and squeezed between the pillars separating the two sets of tracks to get to the unconscious man. A doctor, who was also on the platform at the time, tended to the unconscious man until the EMT’s arrived on the scene.

 Firefighter Adam Rivera, who grew up in Dyker Heights, attended local schools including P.S. 176, McKinley Junior High School, and the High School of Telecommunications, and is a member of Engine Company 10.
