September 30, 2009

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will partner with the SHARE Cancer Support Group to host an informational forum designed to work within the community to reduce the mortality rate of women's cancer in New York City on Monday, October 19, 2009, at 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Grace Auditorium at 385 Avenue W.

"The "Know Your Body" program will feature a presentation of information about ovarian cancer that could lead to early detection and save lives. The event will also feature information regarding all types of cancer specifically effecting women including breast cancer and metastatic breast cancer.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “We all know that the early detection of cancer is key to survival. However, the reality is that almost 75% of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage when the cancer has spread beyond the ovary. We must do more to bring about awareness so to save the lives of our friends and family members and this event will provide an opportunity for people to get educated so to protect their health and that of their loved ones.”

For more information regarding the event, please contact Senator Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044 or the SHARE Ovarian Cancer Hotline at 1-866-537-4273.
