Auburn- New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio will be honored at the 6th Annual Knights of Columbus and Tyburn Academy Sports Banquet to be held on October 21st for his outstanding community leadership and past athletic achievements. Each year, Tyburn Academy and the Knights of Columbus honor one local community member who has excelled in both community service and athletics. “I am deeply grateful for this recognition,” commented Senator Nozzolio, “It has been my privilege to serve the people of Cayuga County and this award is truly an honor.”

Senator Nozzolio began his athletic career in high school where he served as the captain of the Mynderse Academy lacrosse team and received honorable mention as a member of the all-league football team. Senator Nozzolio went on to letter in freshman football and crew at Cornell University. He also received two varsity letters for sprint football.

After Senator Nozzolio began his career in politics, he has continued to support local school and community athletic programs because of his belief that participation in sports plays a vitally important role in shaping young people’s lives. Senator Nozzolio said, “Athletics teach our young people about teamwork and how discipline, dedication and hard work can pay off. These lessons build character and directly translate into results on and off the field.”

Syracuse basketball coaching legend Jim Boeheim and assistant coach Mike Hopkins will also be speaking at the banquet. Doug Logan, Director of Time Warner Cable Sports, will do the honors as Master of Ceremonies at the event.

"I'm so very proud to be part of this outstanding and fun night,” noted Doug Logan, “Tyburn Academy is at top of the class when it comes to teaching Christian values. This night will be extra special because we are honoring a great friend, outstanding sportsman, and true champion for the Finger Lakes region in Senator Mike Nozzolio."

The banquet will begin at 6:00 P.M. at the Sennett Fire House. Tickets to the annual banquet are available at Tyburn Academy located at 17 Clymer Street in Auburn or by calling 315-252-3600.

“Being the guest of honor at this annual event is very humbling. I have had the privilege to be a part of some great teams,” said Senator Nozzolio, “but being a part of the Cayuga County community and serving its residents has been one of the highlights of my career."
