SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN McDONOUGH TEACH RESIDENTS HOW TO BE READY IF DISASTER STRIKES

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently sponsored a hurricane preparedness seminar to teach residents how to prepare themselves for a hurricane or other emergency. The meeting was held at the Wantagh Fire Department Headquarters in Wantagh.

“The best way to deal with a hurricane or other emergency is by being prepared and having a plan. This meeting showed residents the simple steps we should all take that will go a long way towards keeping our families and homes safe,” said Senator Fuschillo.

“Long Island just missed getting hit by a hurricane recently. People should know how to prepare themselves in case we’re not as fortunate next time. I’m pleased that people took advantage of this opportunity to learn the steps they should take to be ready for the unexpected,” said Assemblyman McDonough

As part of the program sponsored by Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough, James Callahan, Commissioner of the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, and Frank Cassano, CEO of the American Red Cross in Nassau County, informed the audience about actions being taken in Nassau to prepare and respond to hurricanes or other disasters. In addition, they explained the importance of families having a plan in place by illustrating how different types of hurricanes would affect Long Island. The two experts also informed residents about the steps they should be taking to prepare themselves and their families in case of an emergency, such as preparing a “go kit,” having a family communications plan, and what to do if a hurricane or other disaster affects our area.
