Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently partnered with New York Blood Center to help save lives by hosting a blood drive at the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa. The drive resulted in enough pints of donated blood to potentially save 147 lives, according to the New York Blood Center.

“Those who donate blood give the gift of life to someone else. Blood donations are needed for surgeries, emergency medical procedures, and care of cancer patients, all of which could mean the difference between life and death for someone else. I thank everyone who took time and donated blood; their thoughtful generosity will go a long way to helping others in need,” said Senator Fuschillo.

New York Blood Center states that the need for blood donors is constant. Estimates are that one out of every 3 people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lifetime.

Residents who were unable to attend the blood drive sponsored by Senator Fuschillo and New York Blood Center but would still like to donate blood can call New York Blood Center at 1-800-933-BLOOD (2566) for more information.
