SYRACUSE, N.Y.--State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) was recognized for his leadership in authoring a game-changing economic development initiative, the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, by the New York State Preservation League.
Senator Valesky received an Excellence in Historic Preservation Award, which honors notable achievements in retaining, promoting and reusing New York State’s irreplaceable architectural heritage. He shared the Legislative award with Assemblymember Sam Hoyt, who carried the legislation in the Assembly.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Preservation League. The passage of the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit was a crucial victory for Upstate New York’s economic development efforts, and we are already seeing results,” Senator Valesky said. We are continuing to work to improve the program so it can have an even bigger effect, drawing businesses and people back to our downtowns, and reigniting them as economic engines.”
“Thanks to the visionary leadership of Senator Valesky, New York now provides more effective incentives and program features for developers and municipalities seeking to rehabilitate historic buildings, and to advance redevelopment and economic stimulus goals,” Jay DiLorenzo, President of the Preservation League, said. “We are delighted to present this award to Senator Valesky in recognition of his support for the economic and community development opportunities that the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits will provide.”
